Turning Credibility Into Conversions: How a Strategic Website Refresh Helped Build Trust Online

Client Overview:
Every business reaches a point where its website no longer reflects the quality of the work being done behind the scenes. This client had built a strong reputation through excellent service and word-of-mouth referrals, but their online presence wasn’t telling the same story.
The website felt dated, key information was difficult to find, and visitors weren’t being guided toward taking action.
Tom Arndt has spent decades helping North Carolina business owners do one of the hardest things they’ll ever do — sell their business. As an Accredited Business Intermediary with a track record of closed transactions ranging from $325,000 to $3.8 million, Tom had the credibility. What he didn’t have was a website that reflected it.
His existing site was outdated, poorly organized and hosted on a legacy platform that hadn’t been touched in years. It gave no real sense of who Tom was, what he did or why a business owner should trust him with the sale of their life’s work. He came to Barefoot Build ready for a complete overhaul.
The Challenge:
The business wasn’t struggling because of poor service. It was struggling because potential customers were forming opinions before ever making contact.
When visitors landed on the website, they were faced with:
- An outdated design
- Unclear navigation
- Weak calls to action
- Limited trust-building elements
- A mobile experience that didn’t reflect modern expectations
In today’s market, customers often visit a website before making a phone call. If a website doesn’t inspire confidence, many visitors leave without ever reaching out.

Every word on the site came from us — no writing homework for Tom.
Our Approach:
Rather than simply giving the site a cosmetic makeover, we focused on creating a website that would build trust and guide visitors toward becoming customers.
The project included:
- A Modern WordPress website redesign
- Improved page structure and navigation
- Mobile optimization
- Clear calls to action throughout the site
- Better organization of services and information
- Trust-focused content strategy
Every design decision was made with one goal in mind: helping visitors feel confident enough to take the next step.
What We Built:
Homepage:
The homepage was designed to establish credibility within seconds and guide business owners toward taking the first step. Visitors are greeted by a direct headline, “Ready to sell? Let’s get it done right,” alongside a Raleigh skyline image and Tom’s professional headshot. We incorporated a live Google review feed connected to his Google Business Profile, a credentials section highlighting his ABI, CRE, BME, and MBA designations, a dynamic blog feed for future content marketing, and a featured businesses section designed to showcase active listings as the firm grows.
Services:
Rather than presenting a simple list of services, we built a page that walks prospective sellers through the entire business sale process. Each of Tom’s core offerings—Broker Opinion of Value, Complete Seller Representation, and Sell-Side Consulting—received its own dedicated section with detailed explanations based on his real-world process. The result is a page that educates visitors, answers common questions, and helps establish trust before the first conversation ever takes place.
About Tom:
The About page was built around one central goal: helping visitors understand why Tom is uniquely qualified to guide them through the sale of a business. We highlighted his experience serving as CEO, COO, and CFO for organizations ranging from $20 million to $550 million in annual sales, paired with professional photography, industry credentials, and client testimonials. Clear calls-to-action throughout the page encourage visitors to either learn more about the process or schedule a confidential conversation.
Businesses for Sale & Previously Sold:
To give Tom complete control over his listings, we created a portfolio-based system that allows new opportunities to be added and removed without developer assistance. The Businesses for Sale section is designed to grow alongside the firm, while the Previously Sold page showcases real transactions and demonstrates experience across a wide range of industries. Together, these pages provide powerful proof of expertise while helping buyers and sellers understand the types of businesses Tom represents.
Case Studies:
We developed detailed case studies built around real transactions, including the sale of a Harnett County auto and tire center for $3.8 million and a Triangle-area IT services company for $325,000. Each case study highlights the client’s challenges, Tom’s approach, and the eventual outcome, giving prospective sellers a clearer understanding of what the process looks like from start to finish.
Contact:
The contact page was intentionally designed to feel approachable and confidential. Many business owners are hesitant to begin conversations about selling their company, so we focused on creating a simple, low-pressure experience that makes reaching out feel comfortable and secure.
Content Strategy:
Every page of the website was written specifically for Oak Capital Advisors using information provided directly by Tom. Rather than relying on generic industry language, we built the content around his actual process, transaction history, credentials, and experience. The messaging is designed to resonate with North Carolina business owners who are exploring a potential sale and looking for an advisor they can trust.
SEO Foundation:
The website was built with long-term search visibility in mind. We incorporated key phrases such as “North Carolina business broker,” “sell your business in North Carolina,” and “business valuation North Carolina” throughout page content, headings, metadata, and internal linking structures. Yoast SEO was configured across the site, technical SEO best practices were implemented during development, and Google reviews were integrated directly into the website to strengthen both credibility and local search signals.
The Result:
The finished website presents the business in a way that better reflects its professionalism and reputation.
Visitors can now:
- Find information faster
- Navigate the site more easily
- Understand services more clearly
- Access the website comfortably on mobile devices
- Reach out with fewer barriers
Most importantly, the website now supports the business instead of working against it.
Why This Matters:
A website doesn’t need flashy animations or complicated features to generate results.
In many cases, the biggest improvements come from clarity, trust, and ease of use.
When a website accurately reflects the quality of the business behind it, visitors are more likely to become customers.
That’s the difference between simply having a website and having a website that works.
